A few days ago, Trump attorney Jenna Ellis accepted a plea deal in Fulton County where she read a televised and scripted apology that was straight from the Stalin show trials of the 1930.
The judge announces to the courtoom that Ellis is “not required to do so in any way” but that she can address the cameras and make a public statement. Her lawyer then provides a copy of her forthcoming “public statement” and then the judge admits that he already has a copy of it as an attachment to “state exhibit #1.”

The key phrase here: “I relied on others, including lawyers with many more years of experience than I, to provide me with true and reliable information. What I did not do — but should have done, your honor — was to make sure that the facts the other lawyers alleged to be true were, in fact, true.”
This is called: blame-shifting 101.
