The sagacious and well-read Founders, unlike today’s contemporary political morons, were astutely aware of the evil lurking within mankind and the tyrannical impulses to assert one’s domain over others. Limited government – limiting government ability to assert itself – was of utmost importance in keeping people free and human nature in check.
They also understood that freedom had what economists call opportunity costs. Thomas Sowell, among his many brilliant observations, points out that there are no such things as solutions. There are only trade offs, meaning the perfect answer and the utopian society dreamt of by leftists don’t exist.
Governed by this philosophy, the dangers of citizens being equipped to potentially harm one another are incomparably more palatable than the dangers of ruthless totalitarianism rising to imprison the masses. Does Australia ring a bell? In any event, criminals and violent thugs will carry out their evil ways regardless of the tool. To say guns are the enemy is a red herring and gross misrepresentation of reality..
But, unfortunately, people are idiots these days and they allow themselves to think that guns are scary and that The State would never abuse its power.
According to the Associated Press, Joe Biden could make some sweeping proposals as soon as today:
“The Biden administration will come out with its long-awaited ghost gun rule — aimed at reining in privately made firearms without serial numbers that are increasingly cropping up at crime scenes — as soon as Monday”
The Daily Wire identified three ways this law would supposedly target ghost guns:
- “To help keep guns from being sold to convicted felons and other prohibited purchasers, the rule would make clear that retailers must run background checks before selling kits that contain the parts necessary for someone to readily make a gun at home.
- To help law enforcement trace guns used in a crime, the rule would require that manufacturers include a serial number on the firearm “frame or receiver” in easy-to-build firearm kits.
- To help reduce the number of “ghost guns” on our streets, the rule would set out requirements for federally licensed firearms dealers to have a serial number added to 3D printed guns or other un-serialized firearms they take into inventory.”
It should be noted that laws, particularly those envisioned and codified by leftists, rarely remain in their domain. (continued)
