Perhaps I am showing my age-I remember when my father and I had a ‘talk’ that was very similar. In short, I got to hold still while being told what the rules were (subject to change by party of the first part) and what part I was expected to play (NOT subject to interpretation). This was almost as disturbing as “The Facts of Life” (“It Takes Money to Make Money”) we had when I hit puberty; that’s an whole ‘nother nightmare.
The result of last week’s nuclear talks in Vienna between Iran and the original JCPOA signatories has been described by Western sources as Tehran demanding more from the US while willing to concede less.
“More than five months after multilateral nuclear talks with Iran were paused before the country’s presidential elections in June, a new negotiating team arrived in Vienna in late November with additional demands and fewer concessions than its predecessors,” NATO’s Atlantic Council lamented in an op-ed.
Officials in the Biden administration questioned the Iranians’ “seriousness” over the weekend, suggesting they came to the table unwilling to compromise while demanding the United States drop all Trump-era sanctions. On Tuesday, Iranian media announced that Vienna talks would resume on Thursday.
But why wouldn’t they? The US is in an unbelievably weakened state-concerns over Pakistani Gender Studies and Diversity Handling within the S.T.A.RT program, alongside with an eradication of standard proficiency requirements have totally trumped (haha, see what I did there?) more pedestrian and mundane issues, such as general liberties, privacy and surveillance, murder, election fraud, food, water, and general supply chain issues.
And let’s not forget the Female vs. male fatality rate that is associated with the COVID vaccines but that somehow doesn’t seem to be making the headlines.
“The date for the resumption of the P4 + 1 talks in Vienna has been finalized,” Iran’s Tasnim news agency has reported. “Iran, P4 + 1 resume talks in Vienna on Thursday.” Imagine my relief-as we ignore the Russian buildup on the borders of the Ukraine.
But despite Iran’s ‘willingness’ to continue the dialogue toward restoration of a deal, White House officials are casting severe doubts on the possibility that any compromise can be reached:
A US official said Saturday that Iran had backed away from all its previous compromises on reviving the 2015 nuclear deal and that the US would not allow Iran to “slow walk” the international negotiations while at the same time ramping up its atomic activities.
The warning came a day after Washington hit out at Iran, saying talks with world powers on a return to the 2015 nuclear accord had stalled because Tehran “does not seem to be serious.”
A senior administration official was cited further as saying: “We can’t accept a situation in which Iran accelerates its nuclear program and slow walks its nuclear diplomacy,” according to an AFP and Times of Israel report. I suspect that this person is incorrect; much like the man screaming “I can’t take anymore of this!”, yes. Yes you can.
Meanwhile, the Biden White House is currently trying to resist persuasions by Israel to initiate limited military strikes against Iranian assets in the Middle East. In fresh statements Tuesday, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said his military is fighting “bad forces” in the region “day and night”. Israeli media details:
Hours after Syrian media accused Israel of striking the port city of Latakia, Prime Minister Naftali Bennett said on Tuesday that the military was constantly fighting “bad forces” in the Middle East.
“We’re pushing back on the bad forces of this region day and night,” he said in English alongside Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades. “We won’t stop for one second. This happens almost daily.”
“In the face of destructive forces we will continue to act, we will be persistent, and we will not tire,” Bennett pledged.
In this case, an Israeli air attack on the port of Latakia in Syria was referenced. There are reports that Israel targeted Iranian weapons shipments overnight in the early hours of Tuesday but the contents of the containers that were hit and engulfed in flames remain unknown and unconfirmed.
With all of this COVID restrictions running around this kinda reminds me of something…but I just can’t quite put my finger on it.
Oh wait, there it is: It appears that Tehran and Washington have similar goals and behaviors in mind: do what we say, we will change the deal if we feel like it (and have, multiple times), and don’t talk back.
And both of them appear to be the enemy of the American people.
